Still need health insurance?

You can enroll in or change plans if you have certain life events or income, or qualify for Medicaid or CHIP.

For consumers who have lost Medicaid or CHIP coverage, apply for Marketplace coverage right away! You may be able to get low-cost, quality health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace. All Marketplace plans cover things like prescription drugs, doctor visits, urgent care, hospital visits, and more.

A time outside the yearly Open Enrollment Period when you can sign up for health insurance. You qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you’ve had certain life events, including losing health coverage, moving, getting married, having a baby, or adopting a child, or if your household income is below a certain amount.

Depending on your Special Enrollment Period type, you may have 60 days before or 60 days following the event to enroll in a plan. You can enroll in Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) any time.

Job-based plans must provide a Special Enrollment Period of at least 30 days.

The Health Insurance Marketplace

2023 Open Enrollment is here.
You need health insurance, we can help!

IMPORTANT: 2023 Open Enrollment is now!

Uninsured New Hampshire residents can buy health insurance through the federal marketplace during the 2023 enrollment period.

Enrollment on the federal ACA exchanges at HealthCare.gov runs to January 15.

Those qualifying for financial assistance can receive support when signing up through HealthCare.gov.

All three insurance companies currently in New Hampshire’s marketplace will return to offer individual plans: Anthem, Ambetter from NH Healthy Families, and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. Premiums will vary by plan, based on the included benefit design. Premium subsidies remain in place, along with a three-year extension (2023-2025) of the ARPA eligibility enhancement by the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act.

Plans can also be bought through an insurance agent or directly from an insurance company, although those will not be the same as those bought through the marketplace and are not eligible for ACA price reductions based on income and other circumstances.

You will need to pay your first premium by your insurance company’s due date before your 2023 coverage will take effect.

New Hampshire residents who are buying a plan on www.HealthCare.gov should update their applications and actively compare plan options. If you don’t have insurance, aren’t happy with your current coverage, or are looking for a more affordable plan, the Health Insurance Marketplace provides you with new options to find health coverage that fits your budget. You can search and compare plans online, and quickly see if there’s a plan that works for you.

For people in New Hampshire and across the country, the Affordable Care Act is a lifesaving law. In Congress, I have fought to increase the accessibility and affordability of quality health care so that Granite Staters have the affordable health care they deserve. Recent legislation I helped pass extends American Rescue Plan premium tax credits so that fall 2022 enrollment for Plan Year 2023 is covered. These premium tax credits have already helped nearly 10,000 new Granite State enrollees. In these unprecedented times, it is more critical than ever that everyone has access to quality, affordable health care.

We also have navigators here in New Hampshire ready to help you select a plan and ensure you find the best coverage for yourself and your family at no cost. Even if you plan to renew your current plan, a Navigator can check to make sure you receive all the cost saving subsidies made available through recent Congressional action.

What Kinds of Plans Are Available?

The Health Insurance Marketplace offers a variety of plans to pick from. You have the option to pick a Bronze Plan, Silver Plan or Gold Plan. Plans in each category pay different amounts of the total costs of your healthcare. For instance, you may pay 40% of the cost if you go with the Bronze plan, 30% with Silver, and 20% with Gold. Co-pay and deductibles may apply.

What to Consider When Choosing a Plan

If you expect a lot of doctor visits or need regular prescriptions, you may want a low deductible Silver or Gold plan. These plans generally have higher monthly premiums but pay more of your costs when you need care.

If you don’t expect to use regular medical services and don’t take regular prescriptions:

You may want a Silver or Bronze plan. These plans cost you less per month, but pay less of your costs when you need care. Make sure you look at all the costs that come with having health insurance. Be familiar with the plan’s monthly premium (how much you pay each month), deductible (the amount you pay before your insurance begins to pay), and co-pays (a dollar amount you pay for a medical service). It is important to consider all of these costs when choosing a health plan. The plan that is the least expensive every month may not necessarily be the best option for you and your family.

5 Facts you need to know:

1. Open enrollment on the Health Insurance Marketplace lasts until December 15 on HealthCare.gov. Beat the rush and sign up early.

2. No matter if this is your first time getting covered or you are returning to shop and save, you must take action by December 15.

3. Those who choose to go without health insurance may have to pay a penalty.
